When you go to share a link from your AMP website, Facebook may not be displaying the correct image. Sometimes Facebook might pull an old image or even worse, no image at all! Thankfully though, you can easily troubleshoot and fix these types of issues using a tool called the Facebook Debugger

Whenever you upload things to WordPress, Facebook caches your images on their servers and CDN. You can think of this the same way caching works on your internet browser, sometimes you have to clear the cache to get things working again. The same sometimes goes for Facebook. If you make updates on your site, Facebook might still show an old image when you go to share it, this is because it doesn’t fetch new information, but rather serves up the information it already has cached.

How to use the Facebook Debugger to Fix your AMP Website Images

  1. Make sure your Featured Image and Yoast SEO Meta Description are updated. If your page does not have a feature image and you've never edited the meta description, it's automatically pulling an image from your media file and from some recent text you've added. Reference the screenshots below to see where to update it.featureimage.png

  2. Once you've made changes and hit the blue UPDATE button on the right side of your page, copy and paste your URL into the Facebook Debugger Tool.

  3. Click the blue Debug button. Sometimes, clicking this button doesn't resolve the issue immediately.

  4. If you still see the incorrect preview, click the "Scrape Again" button. Often times, you'll have to keep clicking that button a few more times. Keep hitting it until the correct preview appears. incorrect-preview.png

  5. Once your new image and text populates in the Link Preview, feel free to reshare it on Facebook or any other social media site. preview-good.png
