The size and quality of an image for use on a web page is determined by a variety of things.

Physical Size

The physical size of an image is based on two things: The size of the image on the screen, and the file size. Generally, the file size is treated as a different issue.

File Size

This is the size of the file on your hard drive or server. Generally speaking you can upload files up to 25MB onto your site.

Resolution

Resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image. Resolution is sometimes identified by the width and height of the image as well as the total number of pixels in the image.

File Type

Only .jpg, .gif, and .png files can be uploaded to your AMP website.

  • JPGs are better suited for photographs as they contain many colors. The format uses compression in order to reduce file size.
  • PNGs are more suited to screenshots and website design images such as icons and buttons. It uses lossless compression techniques so quality is higher, however, this also means larger file sizes.
GIFs are better suited for low-quality images with just a few colors. Today, the GIF format is widely known on the internet as being the file format for animated files.

NOTE: All cropped images will be converted to jpgs. Using an image of exactly the right size will produce the best results, and this is certainly recommended. To preserve transparency in an image, use a .gif or .png image of exactly the right size.

For your Attraction Marketing Project's website specifically, use the following pixel dimensions as a guide:

LOGO - transparent .png file (to have a clear background)

  • Header Style 1 - 340 x 140
  • Header Style 2 - 360 x 120
  • Header Style 3 - 400 x 120
  • Favicon - 16 x 16 in (make sure it's a square image)

Note: larger images will be scaled down for both the logo and favicon.
